ARCHIVE Puss in Boots - The Ogre Hunter A Modern Fairy Tale 18 March until 23 April 2005
The story of how a loyal cat had donned a pair of boots and the set out to win his master a great fortune has enchanted audiences for more than three centuries now. The current JYT production is an updated, adapted and refined version of the classic Charles Perrault story and has been modernised and made accessible to audiences of all ages. The show will run during the Easter Holidays as well. This staging is a truly magical experience filled with all the fun, laughter, music and romance of a contemporary fairy tale. The production is vibey, colourful and witty and includes a 'hip' cat with 'attitude' - and all the other ingredients that make for exciting modern-day children's theatre. What's more, he is now known by his preferred name, The Ogre Hunter! Despite all the contemporary touches, multi award-winning Artistic Director of the JYT, Joyce Levinsohn, has retained all the tantalising and spicy theatrical aspects of previous productions. Style and imagination, therefore, is integral to this staging as the imaginative cat identifies opportunities, becomes inventive and devises strategies by which he persuades the King that his master is "The Marquis of Carabas". The cat's resourcefulness further wins his master the hand of the Princess and also enables him, heroically, to triumph over the meanest ogre ever known. A kaleidoscope of colourful costumes assists a dynamic cast in transporting audiences into the fantasy world of 'Puss in Boots - The Ogre Hunter'. This version of the show - originally written over three hundred years ago - encompasses all the action that will excite today's children and also the sharp wit that will make the occasion special for adults too.
