Hop on a magic roller coaster ride of popular music, dance, and wit to see the exciting production of "ALADDIN". This is a classic rags to-riches Arabian tale and is presented by the National Children's Theatre (NCT) situated at No. 3 Junction Ave, Parktown, from 11 September - 14 October 2006. This follows their extremely successful productions of "The World of Beatrix Potter" and "The Secret Garden". Award winning director Joyce Levinsohn, together with the versatile talented cast Claudine Marais, Nqobile Sipamla, Brandon Swanepoel and Hein Van Zyl will enrapture audiences young and old in this exuberant retelling of Aladdin which captures the full feel and flavour of this well-loved tale. Audiences will be enthralled by Aladdin - a boy with a dream, who triumphs over adversity in an adventure fraught with intrigue. This is interactive edutainment at its best, inviting the audience to participate in Aladdin's journey. A kaleidoscope of sumptuous costumes in rich, glowing colours and delightful characters transport the audience on an enchanted trip to the Orient. This production shows Levinsohn's love of the fantasy genre as the story comes vividly to life for a new generation to treasure and enjoy. The play begins with a troupe of whacky actors in the process of getting a play off the ground and setting the stage for their production of Aladdin. A Magician, a beautiful Princess, two Genies, a Sultan, a spider and a dragon all weave their twists of good and bad, fun and mischief into a magic carpet ride of theatrical exuberance. After every performance the audience will have the opportunity to meet Aladdin and his friends. During government school terms: performances are weekdays at 9:00am and 10:30am.
